At HCMS, all courses falls under one of several subject areas, or departments:
- English Language Learners (ELL)
- Hunter’s Creek Middle School is very proud of its successful ELL Program. This program consists of knowledgeable and dedicated teachers and support staff who make it their mission to provide the ELL students with comprehensible instruction and a learning environment that is conducive to the language acquisition process. ELL students receive services through their language arts classes and an extra literacy class, as needed for language acquisition or reading comprehension. - Literacy (Language Arts & Intensive Reading)
- The language arts department at Hunter’s Creek Middle School provides the highest level of rigorous instruction in reading and writing. In keeping with the Florida Language Arts Standards, our curriculum focuses on four general areas of instruction: informative reading comprehension and analysis, literary reading comprehension and analysis, argumentative writing, and informational writing. - The reading department at Hunter's Creek Middle School provides intervention for students who have been identified to need the extra tier of support. - Mathematics
- The math department at Hunter’s Creek Middle School offers a variety of rigorous and supportive class placements ranging from 6th grade Math to Honors Geometry. Following the Florida Common Core State Standards, these classes are intended to prepare students for future math classes as well as the FAST or EOC cumulative exam at the end of the school year. By combining whole group instruction, station rotations, digital curriculum and independent practice our goal is for students to reach a mastery level on grade level skills. - At HCMS, we pride ourselves in our arts curriculum and are proud to have the following performing & visual arts courses:
- Physical Education
- The Physical Education program provides each student with the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program consisting of skill development, lead up games, team sports, and physical fitness activities. The students receive instruction in rules, skills, and strategies associated with the different sports as well as learning experiences involving physical conditioning activities. The students will also have opportunities to become involved in life-long physical activities through individual sport units. - Science
- The science department at Hunter’s Creek Middle School is focused on teaching science and how to use the scientific process in their lives. Following the Florida State Standards, we introduce and teach students how Earth, Space, Life and Physical Science all work in the world around us. We teach students the process of science by exposing them to the science method, and scientific thinking, that gives them the tools they need to solve problems and come to reasonable conclusions about what they observe. These classes are designed to prepare our students for the CFE and state assessments at the end of the year. Using labs, investigative activities, stations, and practice, our goal for each student is to master their grade level content, and use the scientific process. Questions about Science at HCMS? - Social Studies
- The social studies department at Hunter's Creek Middle School offers a wide variety of instruction across multiple grade levels. From world history in 6th grade, civics in 7th grade, and to U.S. world history in 8th grade, our students will be prepared to actively participate in their communities and have a vast knowledge of the world around them when they leave our middle school. Our department places a great deal of respect on the documents our founding fathers created when they formed our great nation but we also admire the nations our country works with as well. - World Languages
- The World Languages Department here at Hunter’s Creek Middle School offers a variety of learning strategies for Spanish language acquisition. Our students are ranging from 6th grade to 8th graders. The classes are leveled from Beginners Spanish, High School credit and Spanish for Spanish Speakers courses. The Spanish for Spanish Speakers courses are geared to the Dual Language Magnet Program here at HCMS. All of the students will take an CFE cumulative exam at the end of the school year. The instruction is focused on written, oral, reading comprehension, grammar and cultural aspects of all Latin countries with the digital curriculum and technology.
